New sermon series - Holy War: The Battle Between Darkness and the Light

It started small—too small, surely, to make a difference. The first skirmishes in the battle for humanity would be waged in a flyspeck fishing town north of nowhere. With just a few good men, the Light would launch its offensive to take back a world covered in darkness. Leading the way, heaven’s Champion would prove that God was not done fighting for his people.

Though it all started so small, the world would never be the same.

In this series from the first chapter of Mark’s Gospel, we encounter a world not much different than our own. Darkness advances and the people of God seem powerless to prevail. But as it was then, so it is now: heaven’s Champion is on the move. What we must decide is whether to move with him.

Group Life News

Opportunities at Blackmon Road Middle School, our Partner in Education

The generosity of Morningside’s people allowed us to provide 100 backpacks filled with school supplies for students in need at Blackmon Road Middle School. Thank you for your generosity. BRMS has expressed a few needs for the upcoming school year. Assistance is needed in the media center to help students check in/out books and other items. There is also a need for tutoring in math and language arts. As you can imagine, last year was difficult for many students and they need help. The details for tutoring will be worked out based on needs. Again this year we will have a prayer group to lift up the needs of the students, teachers, and staff as they are shared with us. The teachers enjoyed the homemade goodies we shared with them every few weeks and hopefully we can continue that blessing.

If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please contact Julie Ann Crane, Connections Ministry Director at jacrane@morningsidebaptist.com.

Widows’ Ministry

Our widows’ ministry will start their monthly meetings again in September. On Thursday, September 2nd at 11:30 they will gather in the Fellowship Hall for a cookout and a time of fellowship and celebration of being back together after a long break. Contact Faye Snow, fanddsnow@yahoo.com, or Diane Padgett, diane58@knology.net, for more information.

Senior Adult Ministry

The Senior Adults are ready to reunite! Coming the first of September an outing is being planned to Rosehill Seafood for a time of fun and fellowship. Information will come in the next few weeks. We are extremely excited and looking forward to seeing everyone!

Student Ministry

The student ministry has had a great summer. All the events have brought our students closer together and, more importantly, closer to Jesus. We had a great time at Camp Anderson, enjoyed fellowship at our pool parties, and finished up at the Impact 360 Campus where we spent time in prayer and seeking after the Lord. We now look to the fall with anticipation of what God is going to accomplish as we begin our mid-week services. The mid-week service for students will kick off on August 18th. The doors will open at 5:45 and we will begin at 6:00 and finish around 7:30.

KID's Ministry

Wednesday Breakout for Elementary Kids will be from 6:00 to 7:30pm. Kids will meet in the CMC with check-in at the Clubhouse. We have several exciting nights planned to start the year.
Aug. 18th - Waterslide Night
Aug. 25th - Movie Night
Sept. 1st - Hawaiian Punch Team Competition Night
Sept. 8th - Breakout Begins with Worship, Bible Study, and Games

Newcomers’ luncheon

On Sunday, August 1st Morningside had our first Newcomers’ luncheon. This was a time for the church staff and Elders to meet and get to know people new to Morningside. We were happy to welcome Phil & Jennifer Seiler, Shay & Barbara Ingle, Kerrie & Kathy Edwards, Debbie Braun, Scott & Mary Virginia Wehrenberg, and Jay & Christina Baptiste. These people have completed the new Discovering Morningside videos. These five short videos explain our core values and let you know more about Morningside. These videos are located under the Discover tab on our website, morningsidebaptist.com. If you have questions, contact Phil Martin, pmartin@morningsidebaptist.com, or Julie Ann Crane, jacrane@morningsidebaptist.com.

Volunteer spotlight
Building & Grounds volunteer team

Our Buildings and Grounds volunteer team donates many hours of work and skill to keep our campus looking good and functioning well. This group has done everything from laying carpet tiles in the children’s ministry center, erecting a sunshade and frame for the playground, repairing damage to doors and windows, and cleanup around our storage areas. These men have done several repairs and improvement projects at Morningside.

The members of the team are Bob Jordan, chair; Mike Allmond, Mike Babb, Chris Deal, Ed Karnotski, Dan Snow, Ronny Pigg, Sam Oliver, Seth Johnson, and Larry Kees. When you see one of them, please say thank you.

Weekday Preschool

We have once again seen God's blessings here in the Weekday Preschool Program! We are excited to have many new families, as well as current families, join us for another exciting year here at Morningside as we welcome the children back to school on August 17th, 2021. We are looking forward to teaching these precious children the love and word of our Lord as we minister to each of them this upcoming school year! We ask that you pray for the continued blessings He has bestowed upon us as we continue to fulfill His will and continue to do His work to spread His steadfast love to everyone we interact with each day!
