QUARTERLY CHURCH
CONFERENCE REPORT

TABLE oF CONTENTS:

A LETTER FROM PASTOR JONATHAN

Dear Morningside Church Family,

On the third day, Christ rose from the dead. In the third year of my tenure as your pastor, we finally celebrated a Resurrection Sunday without Covid!

It may be difficult to recall, but our first Easter together was entirely virtual. We and the rest of the world were locked down out of concern over the virus that would eventually change our world. Last year, we offered separate worship services to allow some who needed special accommodations.

This year, we celebrated our Lord’s resurrection by starting a new message series designed to bring us together and remind us of the bond of love between us. CONNECT: Your Source for Real Love and Power comes right out of 1 John. There John teaches that God’s love isn’t a one-time gift but a gift that keeps on giving.

What a joy, then, to see life and freedom pulsing in our worship gatherings! On the third day, his resurrection offered us hope that no grave would contain us. In the third year, his abiding Presence has brought all of us up out of the grave of Covid fear and isolation!

Finally, consider how many new individuals and families the Lord has brought into the Morningside family of faith. How wonderful to be preparing to celebrate six baptisms this coming Sunday! How exciting to see how many of you have stepped forward to host CONNECT groups!

I can’t wait to see what he does next!

Your Servant in Christ,

Pastor Jonathan

Church Leader’s Report

Deacon BoarD

The deacons have been busy contacting their assigned families as well as working with the church staff, Bible fellowship leaders, and elders in making a concerted effort to reach out to members that have become less frequent in attendance. Our first-time deacons have already had opportunities to serve in areas of family ministry and have done quite well. Their attitudes and hearts in those situations affirm your choices as a church body with regards to identifying servant leaders.

As we continue to return to the normal or traditional way of doing things, such as taking up the offering or dispensing Communion, please feel free to provide feedback to the deacons and elders with any suggestions or concerns.

 Church Treasurer’s reporT

The Finance Committee meets monthly to review the church financial reports. We feel we are beginning the year in a good financial position and look forward to a great year in 2022. We are slightly over our budgeted expenses due to some unexpected, unbudgeted items that we had to pay in the first quarter. However, we have adequate cash on hand to cover this shortfall. Attendance and giving continue to increase and I encourage everyone to remain faithful in your giving to the church and to the mission of providing a great facility to worship and learn.

Mike Ussery, Church Treasurer

NextGen / Family Ministry

If you have visited the Family Center lately, you may notice a subtle sense of relief and contentment on the faces of the leaders. We feel as if we have finally "arrived" as every group within NextGen ministry is under one roof. The Student and College ministries are enjoying the adjustment to being hosted in a beautiful new space, and parents are appreciating the convenience and safety of having the entire family in one location.

Although we feel as if we have "arrived," this next quarter of ministry must be a season of both harvest and preparation. We are thrilled, especially in student ministry, with recent numbers of record attendance, but we know that God is calling us to continually expand our expectations as He provides more people for us to reach with the Gospel.

There are a few ministry opportunities that you do not want to miss in the next couple months! First, be sure to attend StarQuest: A Morningside NextGen Production on Friday, May 6 at 7 pm in the Sanctuary. StarQuest will feature a group of children and students who have prepared a Scripture-filled musical production that is "out of this world!"

Also, Spark Studios VBS is June 20-24 from 9 am - Noon. Preschool, elementary, and middle school participants can register at morningsidebaptist.com.

Our first planning meeting for VBS leaders and volunteers is Sunday, May 29 at 4:30 in the Family Center Main Entrance. There is also a mandatory Safe Shepherding (child safety) training session for all NextGen volunteers (Preschool, Elementary, Middle/High School, College, and Security) on Sunday, June 5 at 9 am (during Bible Fellowship) or Wednesday, June 8 at 6 pm.

Worship Ministry

Over the last month we have been preparing to add the choir back to our Sunday services. I am very excited to have the choir join us on Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday! We hope to make the choir a more permanent fixture to our Sunday worship team over the next coming months. This team continues to grow spiritually, as well as, in number, and for that I am very grateful to God! If you have a desire to serve on the worship team or tech team, please reach out to me by phone or email. We would love to add new smiling faces to our team!

Widows’ Ministry

The Widows' Ministry started off the New Year with a variety of homemade soups for a meal. The ladies were serenaded by saxophone music played by George Cordino. In February, a catered meal was served with entertainment by the Solid Rock Quartet. In March, our meal was catered by Jason's Deli. Our own Zach Masdon met with us and talked about our new NextGen Ministry space. We have had an average attendance of 25 each month.

Small Group Ministry

We are experiencing a season of growth in our study groups. Our Bible Fellowship attendance is up 6.6% from the comparable timeframe last year, currently averaging 236 people each Sunday. The weekly small group attendance is 40+ and growing!

Morningside recently started a new Bible Fellowship class called #Adulting. This is for young adults who are military or recent college graduates, led by Mike & Julie Ann Crane, Sam & Amber Oliver, and CJ & Michelle Repass.

Connect Groups are here! Much like last year's Fam groups, a Connect group is a short-term small group that allows you to connect with a variety of Morningside folks. The series will tie in with the sermons each Sunday and will be accompanied by a short YouTube video prompt. Group study books are available in the Atrium and on amazon.com

Connect groups begin April 24th and will meet for 5 weeks. Please visit the Morningside website to register. We look forward to having you attend one of these groups.

NextGen - Student Ministry

The Student Ministry Team is excited to announce that we will be sending out information about Camp Anderson, along with starting the process of registration in April. We have also been extremely busy with weekly trips to Jordan High School's FCA meetings on Wednesday mornings and speaking with the Boy Scouts of Troop 404 on Thursday evenings to make student and parents aware of what Morningside Student Ministries has to offer. The MBC students are also eager to show-off their new space as we have seen more first and second time guests over the month of March. We continue to look forward to seeing God's plan unfold for Morningside Student Ministries.

Weekday Preschool

Great things are happening at the Weekday Preschool! We are on the home stretch of the school year and have greatly enjoyed the privilege of teaching these sweet children this school year! We are off to a great start, as we are currently offering pre-registration for our upcoming 2022/23 school year; and we are excited for the opportunity to minister to many more families! If your family or someone you know is currently looking for a loving preschool environment for your child to thrive, please give us a call! We would love to have you become part of our Morningside Christian Preschool family!

connections ministry

Since January 1st, the Connections Ministry greeters have welcomed 29 first-time guests to Bible Fellowship and/or worship. Newcomer luncheons were held in January and March and attended by several people interested in pursuing membership with Morningside. We warmly welcome all of them into the Morningside family. Our newcomer luncheons are held on a regular basis with more information under the Discover tab of our website.

Our Partner in Education relationship with Blackmon Road Middle School continues as we blessed the 80 teachers and staff with individual treat bags for Valentine’s Day. We will also provide some goodies for teacher appreciation week later this month. Our greeter team also served during the NextGen Ministry space open house in March.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,
who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
