A LETTER FROM PASTOR JONATHAN
Greetings Morningside Church Family!
This month we reached an important milestone together. You might have missed it with everything else going on. After all, our Freely In-home Worship Gatherings have been going all summer. Over 50 leaders are working with nearly 100 kids at VBS this week. Almost every Sunday we’re welcoming newcomers. This week alone I signed four letters to families who attended Morningside for the first time! So, I can understand if you missed this milestone.
When I arrived in May of 2019, it was me, Kathy Powell, and Carol Gallups in the office each week. Pastor Brandon had just left Morningside to lead a church in Tennessee. We were seriously understaffed! Chris Trammell and Zach Walsh were serving as interim staff. Two years, countless prayers, and numerous searches later, our staff team is full. Some members of our team were already here. Some we needed the Lord to bring here. Since June of 2020, God has added:

With Zach Walsh, Chris Trammel, Vern Waldrop, Gwen Pigg, and Christina Baptiste, God has given us a terrific staff team! I am amazed and grateful at how he has blessed his church. When you see these folks, thank them for answering the call to serve!
God brought each one of these fantastic servant leaders at just the right time. I hope you’re excited, as I am, to see all he does in and through them. At the same time, I encourage you to remember that God calls all of us to be equipping all of you (Eph 4:11-13)! As the body of Christ, we are on mission to make disciples of Jesus by Knowing Christ and Making Him Known.
Let’s get to work for Jesus!

Church Leader’s Report
Deacon BoarD
The deacons have been busy with family ministry. They have worked with church staff, Bible Fellowship Group leaders, and the bereavement teams to minister to several families during the loss of loved ones and illnesses in the past quarter. Always feel free to contact your deacon with any questions, concerns, or prayer requests.

Church Treasurer’s reporT
Our second quarter giving has been less stellar than what we witnessed throughout 2020 and into the first quarter of 2021. As we’ve been getting back to “normal” life—taking vacations we missed in 2020 and enjoying eating out again—giving to God’s work at Morningside has slipped a bit. Our ministry staff have all been disciplined in their spending this quarter. But we have incurred some additional unexpected expenses when several ancient cooling units needed replacing. During any season of uncertainty, one thing that does not change is our focus on the Heavenly Father and His leadership in our lives both individually and corporately. I am confident that our shared faith in God has brought us to this point. As we maintain our focus on Him, we can all be confident He will encourage us to renew our shared commitment to his work.

NextGen / Family Ministry
In Psalm 78, the psalmist implores the people of God to “tell the coming generation” of the “glorious deeds” and “wonders” of the Lord. This psalm is a beautiful declaration of our purpose as a ministry to the Next Generation as we commit to “not hide” the wonders of the Lord from the coming generation, but we will “arise and tell” our children about the wonders of God so that our children will “set their hope in God.” We have certainly witnessed the wonders of God throughout the summer, and we are diligently preparing to “arise and tell” the future generation about the beauty of following Christ.
One of my favorite highlights of the summer was observing God work in the hearts of our middle and high school students at summer camp at Camp Anderson on the Blue Spring in Marianna, Florida. One of our guest students received Christ and committed to be baptized at her home church, and multiple students expressed a calling to ministry while at camp. The week was a wonderful balance between fun adventure and extraordinary biblical teaching.
A few of our elementary boys and dads recently returned from Camp McCall, which is a phenomenal adventure camp in the mountains of South Carolina that focuses on missions education and foundational biblical teaching.
The elementary kids recently completed their Gospel Project unit in Bible Fellowship on the Spirit’s role in the growth of the early church, and they are currently learning about “All Things New,” which is a study about our growth in becoming more like Christ (sanctification).
One of the most exciting new developments in our ministry area is the recent addition of Jennifer Seiler, our new children’s ministry director, who joined our Next Gen Ministry team on July 6. We are thrilled to welcome Jennifer and her husband Phil to our church family.
The next stages of summer will prove to be exciting as we host Vacation Bible School, eagerly await the start of construction on the Student and Young Adult area of the Family Ministry Center, prepare to launch a new student ministry vision in the fall semester, and prepare for an exciting new semester of kids’ ministry in Breakout on Wednesday nights.

Worship Ministry
The highlight for the worship team these past few months has been the removal of masks for the worship services! Through this, He has shown me how precious is the freedom He offers to me (and to everyone). This freedom is something the enemy wants to hide. It is my desire, through MY worship to uncover what the enemy has hidden. Just like uncovering our mouth from the mask, there was freedom. The same holds true with worship, through the opening of my heart to the Spirit of God, there is FREEDOM, one that is much greater than the freedom of removing a mask! If you have a desire to serve on the worship team or tech team, please reach out to me by phone or email. We would love to add new smiling faces to our team! Christrammell@live.com 706-518-2143

Men’s Ministry
The Men's Ministry hosted a 'Band of Brothers' breakfast on Saturday, June 19th featuring Dr. Leland McCluskey sharing his work in the local medical community as well as his work with Samaritan's Purse for the past 15+ years. Approximately 60 attended with one rededication of faith. This was a good re-start with plans to build on this success.

SENIOR ADULT Ministry
This past quarter I have been so excited to see so many return in person to Bible Fellowship and Worship. We have formed a Senior Adult Leadership Team that will meet this month and begin to develop ways to minister to those who need us and help the senior adults to find ways to serve here at Morningside. I have been able to visit in person with some of you and have enjoyed the fellowship. As we continue to move forward, please join us in praying that we will continue to follow God’s direction for this wonderful ministry.

Widows’ Ministry
The Widows’ sponsors were able to resume having lunch with our group in Covenant Woods in June. In July, we are taking as guests some of our widows to eat with the Covenant Woods group. We are planning on starting our monthly luncheons in September if all continues to go well!

College and Career
This past quarter many of the college and career class spread out to summer camps and mission trips in places like Alaska, the Midwest and all over Georgia. Many are working youth summer camps. We are looking forward to those students returning in mid-August. For those in town we have been studying Job and Paul’s missionary journey through Greece. In the fall several of our students will be serving on the BCM (Baptist Collegiate Ministry) leadership team at CSU.

Women's Ministry
The Women’s Ministry held a two-session retreat this past April 30 and May 1 entitled ONE: Spirit. Accord. Hope. Centered around Philippians 1:27, we focused on what it means to stand firm in "one spirit, in one accord, contending together for the gospel." We kicked off the event with a guest speaker, Kay Snipes, and heard from our own Mary Stewart, Jennifer Giles, and a panel of women that included Lauren Hamsley, Whitney Urquhart, Lauren Moye, and Karalee Masdon. We also worshiped together and enjoyed time talking and sharing together at tables over a bite to eat. The women’s ministry will be looking for more ways to connect women to one another and the Lord as we head into the fall. Do you have an idea you would like to share? Small Group Ministry
This summer we have been blessed by generous families who have opened their homes to Morningside members to join Pastor Jonathan and Worship Leader Chris Trammell in Freely In-Home Worship Gatherings. This provided a chance for the people of Morningside to come together in a relaxed setting for fellowship and worship. Members were able to hear more details about the Freely campaign and the overall vision for the student facility. As summer winds down and the new school year begins, new small groups are available to join for Bible study. There is a new group for parents of youth on Wednesday nights. On Sunday mornings we will offer a 8-week class for nearly & newly married couples. For information on attending or hosting a small group, please contact me at pmartin@morningsidebaptist.com

Student Ministry
The Student Ministry has had quite the summer filled with plenty of opportunities to meet and grow in Christ together. The Student Leadership Team has seen the Lord move our students towards a deeper and more meaningful relationship with Jesus. It is my wholehearted belief that the Lord is continuing to prepare the hearts of our students this summer to have an even greater impact on their peers as they return to school in the next few weeks.

Student Ministry Director

Weekday Preschool
We have been immensely blessed in the Weekday Preschool program here at Morningside! We had another wonderful school year, for which we are so grateful and sing our praises to the Lord! He has continued to be faithful and provide for us and allow us to spread his love and share his teachings with his most precious gifts - the children for which we have the opportunity to teach and care for each day! We are excited and looking forward to starting this upcoming school year with our preschool families and continuing to spread the word of the Lord to all we serve!

Weekday Preschool Interim Director

connections ministry
During the second quarter of the year, Connections Ministry introduced items with the MBC logo that are available to our members. The response was good, and the plan is to continue having these items available. An appreciation luncheon was held in May for the Greeter/Welcome team. Moving forward, several of our volunteer ministries will be highlighted in our newsletter and social media. Our relationship with Blackmon Road Middle School as a Partner in Education will continue as well as hosting blood drives for the American Red Cross.

Buildings and Grounds
Members of the team installed Easter banners on our campus. Several items of general cleanup and maintenance were completed including adding a shelf to new golf cart storage, disposing of dried concrete bags and hay scraps, rearranging items in storage for optimum space for security golf cart, cutting final concrete pavers with concrete saw to fit flush with the sidewalk, and repairing squirrel damage at bottom of doors and windows in the gathering room.

Bereavement
Our bereavement ministry teams were blessed to serve six MBC families during their time of grief, after the loss of their loved one. We have some wonderful teams and would love to have more people join us in this ministry. If interested, please contact Cathy Gilson #706-577-9384.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,
who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
